The big switch on

Friday, November 01, 2019
Now that the autumn harvest is in we are busy in the Moody Cow kitchens making chutneys, infusing spirits and soaking fruit ready for the launch of our Christmas party menu.

This year the festivities will start at 6pm on Wednesday the 4th of December, over the next two weeks young designers who live in Upton Bishop have been invited to design the decoration for the top of the Christmas tree, we will then have just a few days to turn the winning design into reality so that everyone will get to see it when the tree is lit up.

The winning young designer will receive £50 in vouchers to spend on school materials and another £50 to spend on whatever takes their fancy, and of course will get to keep the famous challenge cup for a year.

You are welcome to come, we will be singing carols, offering warm mince pies, piping hot mulled wine and roasting chestnuts.

Do let us know if you are planning to join us so we don't run out of mince pies!

We are all taking a short break

We would like to thank all of you for all of your support and look forward to welcoming you back in September.

M50 Closure 15/2 through 17/2

Friday, February 15, 2019
A significant number of our guests travel to visit us at the Moody Cow.

Unfortunately essential maintenance is scheduled to take place on the M50 this weekend and will affect those guests who are visiting us from the North via the M5.

Highways England have assured us that effective diversion signage will be in place, we have contacted those guests that we know will be affected, but just in case we though it would be wise to let you know to add around 20 minutes to your journey time.

Thank you for your understanding.

Maximum score for food hygiene

Friday, February 01, 2019
In a way it couldn't have come at a worse time!

Tom and his team of talented young Chef's were busy cooking for our first few lunchtime guests, I was outside, with the chainsaw cutting up logs, I don't know about you, but when I am working outside going to get covered in sawdust I don't tend to don my best togs!

No need to worry, after spending an hour or so running through all of our records, and another hour observing lunch service we were given the maximum rating of 5.

This is a credit to Tom and his team.

Michelin Red Guide 2019

Friday, November 02, 2018
We are all thrilled to be listed for the fifth year running in the Michelin Red Guide.

This is a fantastic achievement by Tom and his young team, who work tirelessly to deliver consistent quality every single day.

I asked Tom to share the secret of his success, he said  "I just love cooking, creating new dishes, working with the best quality ingredients and making small quantities of each dish every single day".

His passion is distilled throughout his entire team.

Snow update Saturday 3rd

Saturday, March 03, 2018
We have been out and about in the Moody Cow Land Rover this morning and I have just got back from picking up some of our kitchen team.

The main roads are clear, minor roads to and from the Moody Cow are still quite dicey, effectively down to one lane with the odd abandoned vehicle.

The biggest issue for our team and probably most of our guests is getting out of private driveways and minor access roads, many of which are blocked with drifted snow.

On that basis we have decided to close again today and focus our energy on getting our car park cleared of snow and preparation complete for Sunday lunch tomorrow.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Snow stops play Friday 2nd March 2018

Friday, March 02, 2018
We are so very sorry but the drifting snow that fell overnight has made it quite impossible for our team to get to work safely.

More snow is forecast for later today and the advice is only to travel if it is essential, as a consequence we have decided not to open today.

We have let all our guests who booked tables with us for today know, and we are deeply sorry for the inconvenience, many, it turns out, had already decided that it would be prudent not to travel.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on a regular basis.

Happy New Year!

Tuesday, January 02, 2018
All of us at the Moody Cow would like to wish you a happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous 2018.

We are now closed for a couple of weeks so that we can make a few improvements and our team can have a well earned rest.

We will open for lunch on Friday the 19th of January.

Thank you for all of your support over the last year.
