News

Wednesday, August 05, 2020

It is now a month since we re-opened our dining rooms, our operating protocols have worked very well and we have seen most of our regular guests return, some even on a weekly basis which is so encouraging.

The feedback we have received has been most uplifting and our guests have been so supportive, we really are very grateful to you all.

We have decided not to join the eat out to help out scheme but we will continue to operate the Moody Cow Chuck Wagon and provide a takeaway service on Wednesday,Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening.

If you are part of a large group staying in self catering accommodation locally, if we can't accommodate you at the Moody Cow we can, if we are given sufficient notice, deliver to you.

We will continue to set aside Wednesday lunchtime exclusively for those that are clinically vulnerable, this plan has proved very popular, naturally all are welcome from Thursday through Sunday lunch, and as always you are also welcome to bring your dog too, just let us know when you complete your booking form.

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to welcoming you soon.

Latest news from the Moody Cow

Wednesday, July 22, 2020

As you know we kept pretty busy during lock down with the community shop, dine at home takeaway menu and the Moody Cow Chuck Wagon offering fresh "street food to go" from a converted horse box in the car park.

We opened the dining rooms as soon as we were allowed, as we promised we would, on 4th July, the pre-opening plan that we wrote in May worked flawlessly and the team quickly got to grips with our new way of working.

We still feel it is more appropriate to maintain a minimum of two meters distancing between "bubbles" and most of our guests are reassured that we ask them to complete a booking form and have a policy of booking in advance if you are dining in.

We have also set aside Wednesday lunch exclusively for those that are clinically vulnerable, either due to their age or an underlying health issue, this is proving increasingly popular and we expect demand will increase further when those advised to shield start venturing out again after the 1st August.

With the exception of the shop, which we had to stop because the kitchens are required from 8am for dish preparation, all the other services are continuing.

We find there is still strong demand at the weekend for the dine at home takeaway menu and the Chuck Wagon goes from strength to strength, now, of course, you can enjoy your street food in the courtyard with a drink from the bar, there is no need to complete a form, you will just need to give us your contact details and accept that the toilets won't be accessible.

We have received some lovely feedback from our guests over the last few months and we would like to thank you for your continued support.

Re-opening on July 4th

Wednesday, July 01, 2020

So, at last we have the go ahead to re-open, and, as we promised, we will, in time for lunch on Saturday 4th of July.

We have been busy over the last few weeks, initially setting up a community shop selling restaurant quality fresh fruit and vegetables, essentials and other things that were quite hard to get hold of, we also started producing a high quality dine at home menu, both of these with a delivery service, often without charge using the Moody Cow Land Rover, for those that couldn't leave home.

Then three weeks ago we set up the Moody Cow Chuck Wagon, offering street food to go from a converted horse box located in the car park.

We have, as you would expect been working hard to get everything in place so that we could re-open to those that would like to dine in as soon as we were permitted to.

Those plans are now complete so here we have set out how we intend to operate as we learn to thrive in a new landscape.

Dining in

We will open on Wednesday lunchtime from 12 to 3 but only for those that are clinically vulnerable, either because of your age or because of an underlying health issue.

The dining rooms will be closed on Wednesday evening, at least to start with.

Our usual service will be available from Thursday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime, we anticipate that Saturday lunchtime will be more focused on families, especially during the school holidays.

It will be necessary to book in advance if you would like to dine in, and when you book we will explain how it works so that you, your guests and our team all enjoy making the experience memorable and safe.

We have created three dining rooms and two snugs, all the tables will be allocated to allow 2M distancing and some tables are perfect for those that prefer to be more distant from other guests, the snugs are very suitable for family gatherings from two households or where some members of the party are clinically vulnerable, we love it when there are three generations enjoying our food and hospitality at the same table, and you are welcome to bring your dog too, just let us know when you book.

The workshop and kitchen dining rooms are in a shared space, so other guests will be passing through, albeit infrequently, these are great for younger guests who will enjoy the atmosphere.

Sunday lunch too will be just like the award winning experience we have always been known for.

Chuck Wagon

The chuck wagon has been very well received, we will continue to offer street food to go on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday evening and Saturday lunchtime, there is no need to book, just turn up and keep an eye on our Facebook page for real time updates, especially if you are coming from some distance away.

Takeaway

We will continue to offer a takeaway service on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening from 6.15 to 7 for those that would like to enjoy our food in your own home, this will work in the same way as it has since we started offering the service in March.  If you are not able to collect we will be happy to deliver to you.

Other than that you will find little has changed, our service, the quality of our ingredients, the care we take with our cooking, the attention to detail will all be instantly apparent and we really look forward to welcoming you back and thank you for the support that you have given us.

Ultimate staycation!

Sunday, April 26, 2020

It wasn't quite the break we and our team had planned, but we will be taking a short break all the same, like many we will be making the most of it.

We will be back on Monday 4th May if you would like to order groceries from the essential shop and serving takeaway food from Thursday 7th May.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support and lovely feedback over the last few weeks

Essentials shop update

Wednesday, April 08, 2020
The idea behind setting up a shop for essentials was originally to meet the needs of the local community, especially if they were unable to get to the shops themselves or wanted to reduce the risk of encountering others when on a conventional trip to the supermarket.

After two weeks we are delighted with the response we have had from you and it has helped us to keep busy . For it to continue to work though we would ask that you try to make up a reasonable order, of say £20 otherwise we spend too much time processing administration and incurring bank charges.

We have updated the fresh fruit and vegetables with this weeks market prices, some items, as you may expect, have experienced increases notably little gem lettuce and baby leaf spinach.

We have added freshly baked bread and a heat at home dish to the list.

We are still working on the basis that orders are made up on a Thursday and Friday for contact less collection or delivery, you are welcome to email orders at any time to suit you, those orders that are emailed between 1.00pm Friday and 1.00pm the following Wednesday will be processed on a first come first served basis on a Wednesday and the collection slots allocated on the same basis, don't worry if you don't hear from us until Wednesday, we are just getting on with other things.

When you email your order please remember to let us have your telephone number so that we can confirm the details and take payment over the phone.

Thank you for your support and understanding whilst we learn a new skill

Moody Cow shop essentials

Tuesday, March 24, 2020
We have been in detailed discussions with our suppliers and local growers and Jake Simpson from Chicory Crops and I thought this would be a good time to share our ideas about how community shop essentials will work.

I am sure you will appreciate that this is a learning process for us and as we work through it together we will figure it out, learn from our mistakes and support each other.

The principle is that we use this news channel to publish a list of goods available starting tomorrow at 09.00, you will decide what items and the quantities you would like to order, you will need to do this by 11.00am if you want your order to be ready to collect the following day.

We will email back an order confirmation, this will be subject to the goods you requested being available, please remember to include your telephone number, address including post code and if you would like us to deliver, any other details that will help us to find you. We will follow this up with a phone call and process payment by credit/debit card.We will confirm a five minute pick up slot or schedule a free delivery within a two mile radius if you are unable to collect.

It is important that you collect your order at the time allocated and that you observe current government guidance on social distancing.  Only one customer at a time will be able to collect and we would request that you wait in your car until invited.

The order confirmation and your copy of the card transaction will be placed in an envelope with your order.

The idea is that when you make your next collection you return the box that you used last time so that we can sanitize it for the next use.

The range will be very modest to start with and our suppliers are also dealing with this crisis, so we will only receive deliveries of fresh fruit, vegetables and dairy goods on Thursday and Friday, but together I hope that we can keep you supplied with the things you need once a week so that you can play your part in protecting you and others from the spread of the virus and  supporting those near you who don't have access to email or are unable to make card payments over the phone.

If the demand is there we will extend the range of goods to include heat at home dishes, prepared vegetables and of course locally grown fruit and vegetables as they come into season.

Lets work through this together

What we are doing now

Saturday, March 21, 2020
We are working hard to adapt to the fast changing landscape, this week we launched our takeaway menu and it is amazing how well it has been received, so now we have introduced some new dishes for lunchtime and launched a takeaway Sunday lunch service too,

We can deliver to you, free of charge for orders above £30 within three miles of the Moody Cow, or further if you accept an additional charge of £1 per mile over three miles.

Next week we will launch Moody Cow shop essentials and essentials plus
We intend to stock the groceries that you need and other essentials such as toiletries, we will also have a selection of prepared vegetables and prepared packs for casseroles, stews, stir fry and soups ready for you to cook at home, this should save you time and make life a little easier if you are feeling under the weather.

If you are living in our community and self isolating we will bring you what you need and provide any other assistance we can. The village has set up a WhatsApp group for those in the village to request assistance.

If you are collecting a takeaway or picking up shopping it is vital that you observe current guidance on social distancing, you will be asked to sanitize your hands, we will check you are not holding a fever and keep a minimum of two meters between you and the nearest person to you. If you have had contact with anyone infected with COVID-19 please do not come to the Moody Cow, instead ask us for contact less delivery.

If you are 70 or over, have underlying health issues or are in the later stages of pregnancy please don't come to the Moody Cow, instead ask about contact less delivery.

Only one person will be allowed in the building at a time and please respect our safety be keeping 2 meters between us.

I knew all along that we had a fantastic team and super supportive customers, the events of the last few days made me realise that I had underestimated you, you are so much better than I ever imagined.

Please stay safe, look after yourself be kind and thoughtful to those nearby, thank you and good luck

Business, not quite as usual!

Wednesday, March 18, 2020
We promised that we would share our plan to work through the current crisis.

From this evening we will be offering a selection of our dishes on a take away basis, you can either call by to collect or we will deliver to you if you are unable to leave the house, each dish will be made with the same care and attention to detail that we have earned a reputation for.

These dishes will be available from Wednesday to Saturday evenings from 6.00pm to 9.00pm. and you can see the menu on the food page of our website.

If you are further afield and miss our famous barbeque pork spare ribs we can send them by post so that you can enjoy them at home, there are other items for sale in our online shop too.

If you are a Moody Cow Club Card holder you will be entitled to a 10% discount and we are offering a number of other "treats" that are refreshed every month, if you fancy joining the Moody Cow Club you can purchase your card on line and we will post it to you, once you receive it you can start using it straight away. We hope that this offer will be taken up by those in our community that are vulnerable and need to protect themselves from the risk of becoming ill.

As long as we are able we will be operating to new opening hours, from Friday lunchtime through Sunday lunchtime, in addition to our existing industry leading standards of hygiene we have taken some additional steps to ensure the safety of our guests and our team.

Every table will be a minimum of 2M apart, we can also offer al fresco private dining for up to six in the gazebo which has a wood burning stove and we can offer a table for four in the grain store which also is equipped with a wood burning stove.

If you are in a vulnerable category we would encourage to to follow the current Government guidance and stay at home and of course, if you are suffering with any of the symptoms associated with Coronavirus COVID-19 then please postpone your visit. All visitors will be expected to sanitize their hands before entering the premises.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and our amazing team for their unstoppable energy. we have a couple of other plans up our sleeves.

We will continue to keep you posted as this story unfolds

Coronavirus Covid-19 update #2

Tuesday, March 17, 2020
The direction from Government announced yesterday evening has very significant implications for the Moody Cow, our team, our guests and of course the entire hospitality sector.

As you can imagine, a significant number of guests who had made bookings for the coming weeks have decided to postpone or cancel their booking most usually because a member of their party is in a vulnerable group either due to their age or an underlying health issue, we all totally understand this, it is vital that we do all that we can to protect those most at risk from this infection.

During the course of today we will contact other guests that have made bookings and try to establish their intentions, we are also busy investigating ways that we could continue to operate through this crisis and how we can support the most vulnerable in our community.

Tomorrow morning we will brief our team and soon after we will let you know our plans.

This is a fast moving situation which will test us all.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
