Snow update Saturday 3rd

Saturday, March 03, 2018
We have been out and about in the Moody Cow Land Rover this morning and I have just got back from picking up some of our kitchen team.

The main roads are clear, minor roads to and from the Moody Cow are still quite dicey, effectively down to one lane with the odd abandoned vehicle.

The biggest issue for our team and probably most of our guests is getting out of private driveways and minor access roads, many of which are blocked with drifted snow.

On that basis we have decided to close again today and focus our energy on getting our car park cleared of snow and preparation complete for Sunday lunch tomorrow.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Snow stops play Friday 2nd March 2018

Friday, March 02, 2018
We are so very sorry but the drifting snow that fell overnight has made it quite impossible for our team to get to work safely.

More snow is forecast for later today and the advice is only to travel if it is essential, as a consequence we have decided not to open today.

We have let all our guests who booked tables with us for today know, and we are deeply sorry for the inconvenience, many, it turns out, had already decided that it would be prudent not to travel.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on a regular basis.

Happy New Year!

Tuesday, January 02, 2018
All of us at the Moody Cow would like to wish you a happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous 2018.

We are now closed for a couple of weeks so that we can make a few improvements and our team can have a well earned rest.

We will open for lunch on Friday the 19th of January.

Thank you for all of your support over the last year.

Jasmine aged 10 is a winner

Wednesday, December 06, 2017
Every autumn we invite children under 12 to make a design for the decoration to top the Moody Cow Christmas tree, this year there were over 120 entries, and many were just fantastic.

Jasmine, aged 10 from Solihull came up with the winning design, it really impressed us because she gave clear instructions, which were very helpful, we only had a day to make it before the big switch on!

Over 50 came to see Jasmine presented with her prize, and the Challenge Cup to keep for a year, of course it would be rude not to slurp mulled wine, sing Christmas carols and munch mince pies straight from the oven.

If you would like to see the original design, it is on display at the Moody Cow, and at the moment (weather permitting!) the decoration is on top of the Moody Cow tree in the courtyard.

The Moody Cow camper has a name!

Wednesday, November 01, 2017
During October we invited our guests to suggest a name for the Moody Cow camper.

Over one hundred and fifty had a go, each donating a minimum of £1 towards Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the charity that we are raising funds for this year.

Together you raised £227 which is amazing, the most popular suggestion was "Ermintrude" we decided that this was a perfect name, so Ermintrude it is, now we will get her sign written and send Terry our congratulations with a bottle of vintage Champagne to celebrate.

Listed in The Guardian top 50 best places for Sunday lunch

Saturday, September 30, 2017
We were all thrilled to hear that the Moody Cow has been selected as one of the top 50 best places for Sunday lunch in the UK.

It all started when Me, Dawn and Tom, who leads his team in the kitchen saved the Moody Cow from closure over six years ago. Just over three years ago Ashley joined us as a kitchen assistant, he was pretty good at washing up and was keen to learn how to cook.

We just love it when one of our team want to learn new skills. We sponsored Ashley to complete his NVQ in professional cookery and Tom spends hours every week teaching Ashley the sort of stuff you just don't get to learn in college.

Two years ago there was an opportunity to lead the team on Sunday, and Ashley was keen to grasp it, we had already built up an enviable reputation for the quality and consistency of our Sunday lunch and we don't take risks at the Moody Cow, many of our guests return again and again, they would instantly know if something had slipped, we also have a culture of continuous improvement, we know we are only as good as the last dish we serve, reputations take years to build up and minutes to destroy.

Ashley was not deterred by the responsibility, he took complete ownership and with continued guidance from Tom and support from Joe and Adrienne one of the best accolades has been awarded to the entire team at the Moody Cow.

Dawn and I are very proud of them all.

Time for a short break

Saturday, August 19, 2017
This year we thought it would be fair to let our team have a much needed break in the summer, makes a change from a couple of weeks in November!

We will close after lunch service on Sunday the 21st and re-open for lunch on Wednesday the 6th of September.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your support and look forward to welcoming you back in September.

The Moody Cow Camper needs a name

Tuesday, August 01, 2017
Last month we held an auction and raised £1,200 for Cystic Fibrosis Trust, we are planning another event in the autumn which, we hope, will raise a similar amount.

In the meantime, we are about to launch the Moody Cow camper van experience, the idea is that you leave your car at the Moody Cow and go off in our delightful classic 1972 VW camper to explore the beautiful countryside nearby.

You can choose your welcome pack, fresh provisions, flowers, chocolates, homemade cakes, picnic hamper, wine, beer or Champagne and decide if you want to enjoy a little more space and take the retro style awning too, this is equipped with a cosy wood burning stove to gather around on those chilly evenings.

The Moody Cow camper needs a name, so we are having a competition, if you make a donation of £1 to Cystic Fibrosis you can put forward your suggestion for the name we should give to the Moody Cow camper.

If the judges choose your name, you will win a bottle of vintage Champagne and we will have the name sign written on the camper for everyone to see.

We hope you join in and if you would like to know more about hiring the camper with no name just give us a call.

Fund raising for Cystic Fibrosis

Sunday, July 09, 2017
On Sunday the 16th July we will be holding an auction of lots and experiences to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Every year around 2,500 babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis, the condition causes reduced lung function, usually requiring daily nebulised treatments and physiotherapy. Many have to endure frequent periods of hospitalisalisation which, among the young, can have a very detrimental affect of their quality of life.

If the weather is fine we will be offering morning coffee and home made cakes ( Emma is going to make a load of Pimms cupcakes), if you are joining us for lunch you can make a silent bid for any of the lost that take your fancy, and of course you can come over at 3.pm to join us for the live auction.

You can bid for a Jeroboam of organic French wine, a magnum of Champagne, vouchers for a tour of Hillside Brewery, a cookery class at Harts Barn cookery school, original water colours by renowned Dutch artist Wiebe van Der Zee, a day's fishing at Phocle lake and many other super lots.

If you can't make it on the day you can email your bid by 11.00 on the 16th using the contact us page of our website.  Over the next few days we will be posting photographs of most of the lots on Facebook, or if you need to take a closer look, just pop in and see us.

Happy bidding and thank you all for your continued support
